Waiting For, Waiting for Godot

June 13-27

Dave Hansen’s “Waiting for, Waiting for Godot”

Dave Hansen’s “Waiting for, Waiting for Godot” offers a modern exploration of existential themes through a familiar framework. Characterized by sharp, witty dialogue that balances humor and melancholy, the play challenges audiences to confront the absurdities of life and the complexities of human relationships.

The performances by Tom Hewitt, Jeremy Clifton and Mandi Thompson  bring a hilarious delivery that perfectly captures the essence of Hansen’s writing. Under the masterful direction of Linda Baker, their chemistry is palpable, enhancing the play’s exploration of hope and resignation.

As the characters grapple with their choices, they go back and forth between laughter and despair, emphasizing the futility of their waiting. Godot’s absence is reaffirmed, leaving them in a perpetual state of anticipation. The final moments echo the cyclical nature of their experience, prompting the audience to reflect on the human condition.

Through increasingly surreal discussions, Hansen’s adaptation encourages introspection and philosophical inquiry, making it a thought-provoking experience. This rendition not only honors Beckett’s original but also revitalizes it for modern audiences, demonstrating the timeless relevance of its themes.
