Audition Announcement:

Looking for actors interested in collaborating on new work!A stipend is available for all actors.
We seek a diverse ensemble of about a dozen inquisitive performers 16 years and older.
Ensemble auditions will be held on Saturday, May 21st at 1 pm at Keizer Homegrown Theatre.* Please wear clothes that allow you to move freely. During auditions we’ll read from the script, play ensemble games, and explore vocal and movement exercises. Call backs are the following day at 3pm. Roles will be cast early in rehearsal out of the ensemble. We’ll have some calls during June and July for ensemble development and training, as folks are available. Rehearsals begin early August. Please bring a theatrical resume to the audition.

We will workshop Weaving Penelope, a new play by Richard Carp and Rebecca Daniels, during August and early September, with showcase performances September 17 and 18th outdoors at Keizer Homegrown Theatre. Richard, who recently moved to Salem from the Bay Area, will direct and Rebecca, a co-founder of ART in Portland, will be present for the last week.

Weaving Penelope explores the mostly untold story of Penelope, a legendary Mycenaean woman who, among other things, married Odysseus. It features a chorus of players who narrate the story and out of which all characters emerge. Working with character, dance, martial art, puppetry, masking, and shadow play, as well as techniques developed by, e.g., Jerzy Grotowski, the Living Theatre, and Bread and Puppet Theater, we will create a unique theatrical style in which to tell our story.

To audition and perform, all actors must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Please provide proof of vaccination at theaudition.
